No one ever talks about certain aspects of being a rape victim. They don’t mention the fear of being alone with male doctors or the sheer terror that comes with getting in a cab, or the traumatic experience the gynecologist becomes.
To My Fellow Survivors
Just because it happens to “so many people” doesn’t mean you have to get over it.
The fact that it happened to others doesn’t diminish what you went through.
Just because it “could have been worse” doesn’t mean your pain isn’t real.
You’re allowed to feel how you feel, and the truth of the matter is that it never should have happened to you.
Sometimes these things are said to try and help. But a lot of the time it invalidates our pain.
You are valid. You are strong. And you take as long as you need to move on. You’re doing just fine.
the rest of your life
is the worst thing that
can happen.
It always feels like
it happend yesterday.
Every day you try to
get better but
inside
It’s always inside.

Just an important message for my fellow trauma survivors:
What happened to you wasn’t fair. Don’t downplay it, or tell yourself that other people have it worse. The bottom line is that it should NEVER have happened. What you feel about it is real and valid. It might not be okay right now, but one day it will be. Thank you for surviving. I’m so glad you’re here.

You broke something in me that I will never be able to repair.
